MJF at Nokia's Pangea Day
MJF Executive Director Craig Goodwill was invited by Nokia to this Years Pangea Day.
Pangea Day was an international multimedia event conducted on May 10, 2008. Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai and Rio de Janeiro were linked to produce a 4-hour program of films, music and speakers. The program was broadcast live across the globe from 1800 to 2200 UTC, culminating in a global drum circle, symbolizing the common heartbeat of the world. According to the festival organizers, "Pangea Day plans to use the power of film to bring the world a little closer together." read more »
MJF In Haiti
MJF just returned from Haiti where we were directing a documentary on child slavery and abuse with our partner Plan Canada.
It is the story of four Canadians who are working in Haiti, trying to improve the lives of children across the country. The four characters are a Montreal Police officer, a Canadian pop star, George, a Haitian filmmaker and a Plan Haiti staff member.
Plan Canada funds Media programs for Haitian youth, developing the next generation of story-tellers. The youth wrote a story of a young child slave who had been abused throughout her live, "The Misery of Silfiz". read more »
